One of the most famous areas in New York City, in Downtown you can find:

- the Brooklyn Bridge (D in the map)
The Statue of Liberty was close when I was there but from the 4th of July 2009 it will be reopened for a limited number of people. By the way just to see it closelly from the boat was a dream that got true: a symbol I had always in mind.
The U.S. Stock Exchange is in Wall Street and can be saw only from outside but it is a place where to take some pictures maybe with the board with the street name on the back.
Ground Zero has been the most poignant moment of my holiday in NYC. In the Memorial Museum you can see objects and clothes of employes of the Twin Towers or of the firemen and listen to radio communication of them while they were rescuing the people. The entrance costs 15 USD. You can see the status of rebuilding thanks to a webcam.
The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most famous bridges worldwide because huge and one of the first suspention bridges in U.S.
One thing you have absolutelly to do is to try smoothies made with good fresh fruit and not added sugar. Absolutelly wonderful!Remember to do it in the financial district otherwise you won't have other opportunities in the rest of the city.
NYC, by the way, is a place where you can find food for everyone: you can find along the streets halal or kosher hotdog sellers.
